Medium Hair Cut for Teens

However you get your hair cut, it's important for hair to complement your personality and your face shape. Medium haircuts complement almost all face shapes and hair textures, and you can be sure that your haircut will make you look like a teenager: not too young and definitely not old.
Straight
If your hair is naturally straight, or you want to wear it straight, consider putting layers in your hair. This works especially well if your hair is thick. The more choppy layers you have, the more obvious the different lengths will be, especially when worn stick-straight, like Ashlee Simpson's layered bob. Add interest to this cut with bluntly cut bangs that reach your eyebrows if you part your hair in the center, or side-swept bangs that start at your eyebrows and gradually end near your ears if you part your hair to the side.

Asymmertical
Asymmetrical haircuts are flattering on many face shapes, and are most popular with the emo crowd. For an asymmetrical haircut, have a shorter layer on the top of your head, keep the sides shorter than the back, and allow the rest of your hair to fall to just above your shoulders. This look works well with straight or slightly wavy hair. For an even more emo look, part your hair dramatically to one side and wear side-swept bangs.

For a twist, add color to the short layer. You can add subtle highlights or a high contrast color to allow the cut to stand out. If you want to look emo, you might try colors like black or pink. To style the cut, use mousse on the short layer for volume and definition on the ends.

Waves and Curls
If you have wavy hair, cut your hair one length between your chin and your shoulders. If you want a soft, feminine look like Christina Aguilera's, you can style it with a smoothing balm on the crown and curl the ends. The waves provide movement to the haircut.

If you have curly hair, ask your stylist to give you a rounded cut--slightly longer in the back than it is in the front or on the sides. Allow your hair to spiral up in its natural state. The rounded cut encourages curl toward the crown of your head, similar to model Shakara Ledard's haircut. If you plan to wear your curly hair at a medium length like hers, though, you'll want to use a conditioning cream to ensure that your curls won't frizz.
